"Simpson oils were filling a domestic heating tank this afternoon at Greenside Avenue, Rosemarkie. The operator connected the hose incorrectly resulting in 240+ litres of kerosene oil escaping. The oil ran down the road, entered a roadside gully and discharged on to Rosemarkie beach.

Kerosene is a light oil and will evaporate.

The following actions are being undertaken:

The contaminated site has been cordoned off

The site will be monitored- Foreman on site

Simpson Oils are following their incident reporting procedure ( SEPA etc)

Diane Agnew – Ward Manager has been informed and is assisting by contacting Environmental Health

Oil pollution response material has been mobilised as a precaution

Iain Moncrieff – Roads Operations Manager, Skye, Ross & Cromarty is currently in discussion with SEPA, who have advised that they will also send a representative to check the contaminated site as a precaution.  SEPA were happy with the actions carried out as detailed above, and have agreed that no excavation of the contaminated  is required.
