04 January 2025CHRISTMAS EVE UPDATE
THANK YOU to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make this year's Christmas Eve event a success, and to all who came along to join in. The Cathedral looked spectacular and the weather held!
Particular thanks to William Mather who masterminded the event, to Lorna and Brioan Skinner and Isable Patterson for the beauriful music, to the "Ad Hoc" choir who led the singing and to the Tonkin family for all their contributions, and of cour, to our Father Christmas and all his helpers!
The collection raised more than £700, with a donation earmarked for Shopmobility Highland (a chartiy providing electric scooters, wheelchairs and other hellp for those who find accessing the shops difficult). We are also hoping to use some of the koney to buy a few more Christmas lamp-post lights ready for next year, especially for Fortrose High Street.
Thank you again to MARY GALLOWAY for kindly donating the magnificent tree for Cathedral Square, and to David Guthrie, Bob Latimer, David Grigor and Nick Lake for putting the tree and the lights up - and crucially, for taking them down before Twelfth Night! (The random handful which stay up all year belong to the Council, in case you were wondering, and we spotted a couple more this year for which we are grateful!).
15 December 2024CHRISTMAS EVE COMMUNITY SINGING AT FORTROSE CATHEDRAL!
Come and join us at FORTROSE CATHEDRAL at 6.30pm on Christmas Eve, 24th December, for the annual community singing of carols and Christmas songs.
We are hoping Santa might drop in to say hello before he sets off on his worldwide journey!
Remember to dress for the weather, bring a torch - and if you need to warm up afterwards, try the Anderson's mulled wine.
Don't forget to bring some change with you - we'll be collecting for local projects and good causes, including Shopmobility.
Song sheets will be available as usual at the gate on the night, but you might like to access the words via your phone - easier to see in the dark and saves on paper! The QR code will be on display by the gate, or (if you are worried about getting a signal) scan it here and screenshot the lyrics to have on your phone.
30 November 2024Christmas is Coming!
Christmas is coming - and a big THANK YOU to the team who have put up our tree in Cathedral Square. Once again, FRCC would like to thank MARY GALLOWAY for kindly donating this magnificent fir, and to David Grigor, David Guthrie and Bob Latimer for making it all happen.
Refreshing the lamp-post lights in both villages is an on-going project. An unexpected hiccup this year was a technical one - new lights would not have been compatible with the old sockets on many of our street lights and to replace them costs money. FRCC is therefore very grateful to THE PAT MUNRO FOUNDATION who donated £1000 to cover conversion work, which will start to bear fruit over the next few years. We have purchased four new "snowflake" lights which you can see in Cathedral Square and in Rosemarkie and we will definitely have a few more new ones for next year. In the meantime, see you on Christmas Eve for Carols and Christmas Songs at the Cathedral!

Looking for the perfect Christmas present?
Look no further!
The late Elizabeth Sutherland and local artist Rachel Bevan Baker produced this beautiful book, "Highland Cathedral - the rise and fall of the Great Kirk of Ross."
The story features Finn who has lived in and around Fortrose Cathedral for over 700 years. Through Finn's eyes, the rise (and ruin) of our ancient kirk comes alive.
It's a great book for ALL ages - especially those that know and love Fortrose. Proceeds go towards Community Council funds and so are used to support local projects.
It's £11.99 and if you would like to buy a copy, please email the FRCC (fortroseandrosemarkie@gmail.com) and we will arrange delivery to your door!
